Kathy Roberts Perl and Janet See:
Music by Bach for Flute and Harpsichord

kathy perlThe second concert of our season features two of the legends of the Bay Area baroque music scene, Janet See, flute, and Kathy Perl, harpsichord, playing a program of music by Bach. Between them, these two players have more acclaimed recordings of Bach than many orchestras.  This is a rare opportunity to hear these players playing music that for both of them is truly core repertoire.

The program will be based on Bach’s sonatas for flute and obligato harpsichord, but also include some shorter and rarely heard pieces.  The obligato sonatas are essentially trio sonatas in which the right hand of the harpsichord plays (most of the time) one of the treble parts of the trio.   In this arrangement, the balance between the two upper voices of the ensemble is unusually perfect, and in the rich acoustic of St. Mark’s, this concert will be a memorable experience.
